November 14 & 17, 2018
Trumbull County Educational Service Center in conjunction with
Ashland University present:
Positive Psychology, Mindfulness and Student Empowerment: A
Dynamic Guide for Teachers, Counselors, and School Psychologists
In this in-depth, 2 session experiential workshop you will learn to harness the power of positive psychology and mindfulness by cultivating strengths, virtues, optimism, and resilience. This empowerment will increase your happiness, and the happiness of your students, by providing a sense of direction, confidence, and energy.
With new creative mindfulness techniques, you will learn to help students identify and ground their strengths within your teaching/therapeutic relationships. Grounded in strengths, one can then identify “possibilities” and integrate and transform “possibilities” into “probabilities” through the power of intention, specific goals and action plans, and positive activation, growth and movement. This will help one shift from a “fixed mindset” to a dynamic and confident “growth, training and trusting mindset.”
Specific concepts that will be reviewed and discussed include an overview of research findings on mindfulness, cultivating the best in others, self-awareness, self-compassion and positive self-regard, fear and arousal management , agility, and emotional/social intelligence; and being a “synchronized fearless warrior” and more. Required CD (available first day of class for $14.95): “Guided Mindfulness Meditations,” Michael S. Prokop, audio CD, ISBN: 0-933879-55-5. Not required but suggested reading, “Fear: Essential Wisdom for Getting Through the Storm,” Thich Nhat Hanh, ISBN 978-0-06-200473-4, $15.99, both items available at Amazon.
