Trumbull County Educational Service Center in conjunction with
PsychEd Workshops and Ashland University present:
Mindful Anger: The Art of Transforming a Difficult Emotion into a
Powerful Therapeutic, Learning, and Empowerment Tool
Anger is a complex human experience involving every feature of our being: our bodies, emotions, perceptions
thoughts and beliefs. The methods in this workshop for processing and releasing anger are based on
mindfulness and have delivered healing for clients/students with an 80% success rate (Brandt, 2018). The
mindfulness tradition regards anger as an unwholesome state of being that is both a cause and a manifestation of
dukkha (suffering). In this workshop, you will learn to mindfully observe, regulate and transform anger into
positive energy, compassion, and metta (loving kindness). The instructor will walk you through cutting edge
strategies that will help you teach your students to be kindhearted yet mentally tough, resilient and forgiving
people. You will learn to use anger as a key to unlocking your clients/students positive aspects, moving them to
greater self-awareness and emotional release, and empowering them to make lasting change. Concepts that will
be reviewed and discussed include costs of unmindful anger, purposes of anger, anger triggers, anger
physiology, affect regulation, the antidote to impulsivity, self-talk, the REACH method of forgiveness, bonding,
resilient profiles, self-regulation, gratitude, staying within your window of tolerance, mobilizing student
resources to meet the discomfort of change, the therapeutic alliance, case studies and more.
